Set a default hourly rate and group tasks by parent

Give team members a default rate that new project assignments inherit, and use the new Parent Task column and grouping.

Rates no longer have to be set per person, per project. Workspace admins can set a default hourly rate on each team member, and every new project assignment inherits it.

Set the rate

  1. Open Manage Workspace → Team → Members.

  2. Click Manage next to a team member.

  3. Enter an amount in Default hourly rate (under Weekly Capacity) and click Update.

How it's used

  • When you add that person to a project, their Hourly Rate on the project team starts at their default.

  • A rate set specifically on a project always wins over the default.

  • Changing someone's default doesn't touch existing project assignments or time already logged. It only applies going forward.

  • If someone is removed from a project and added back, they come back on their current default rate instead of $0.

  • Only your own team members have this field. Clients and read-only accounts don't.

Parent Task column and grouping

On the Tasks list (Starting Line):

  • Turn on the Parent Task column under Customize. It's off by default. It shows each subtask's parent, or a dash for tasks without one. The column is sortable, and clicking a parent opens that task.

  • Choose Group By → Parent Task to group subtasks under their parent. Tasks without a parent go in a single No Parent Task group at the bottom.
